CART

Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) is the instantaneous translation of the spoken word into readable English text. Often called captioning, this text can be viewed on a notebook computer, television monitor, or large screen allowing everyone to read along and participate.

CART is widely used in classrooms, counseling sessions, teleconferences, meetings, seminars, conferences, and trainings, and church services, just to name a few places.

CART enables people who are hard of hearing and deaf equal access to fully and actively participate in discussions by reading the English text displayed. Although mainly used for people who are hearing impaired or deaf, CART has proven to be a valuable learning tool for people with learning disabilities, physical challenges or people with English as their second language.

REMOTE CART

While similar to onsite CART, remote CART requires that the client have a computer with an Internet connection. No phone line is needed for remote CART. A user name and password, supplied by Archive Reporting & Captioning Service, Inc., are required to access this service.

Remote CART is available internationally in all time zones as long as there is an Internet connection.

Remote CART is a simple and cost-effective solution for many clients. Onsite CART requires travel fees and often a minimum billing. With remote CART, billing is only for the actual number of hours CART is needed.

Remote is often used for people who are hard of hearing for conference calls. Many of our clients are Fortune 500 companies.

Remote CART promotes independence by allowing people to blend in without the added attention of another adult with equipment sitting beside them.

ADVANTAGES OF CART
  • CART allows equal access to all spoken information and allows participants to not only fully understand, but also participate in proceedings and discussions.
  • CART can be used by several people at the same time. This including people who are hard of hearing or deaf, people with English as a second language, people with physical limitations or processing or learning difficulties.
  • A verbatim printout is available which eliminates the need to take notes.
  • CART increases reading and comprehension skills
  • Participants are able to sit anywhere in the room.
  • CART is covered by and fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

We offer on-site and remote CART services. Not sure what meets your need? Let our experienced staff help you in your selection of CART services. Call or e-mail us today for your free demonstration of onsite or remote CART.

What our clients have to say:

"Archive Reporting and Captioning Service has been invaluable to me as a returning student with a severe hearing loss. I was always struggling to understand discussions and participate during class, never fully understanding what was going on. But once CART services were provided to me, my grades improved at least a letter grade, and I gained confidence to participate in class discussions without the fear of misunderstanding the topics. Realtime TeleView captioning was a valuable feature for me since it allowed me to read what the captioner was hearing and typing at almost the very second it was said by the teacher. I highly recommend Archive Reporting and Captioning Services." Wendy Williams, Temple University.

"We at Bloomsburg University have been most pleased with the services provided to our consumers÷both students and faculty÷by Archive. They have been great with planning, set up, and delivery of critical support." Peter Walters, Director of Disability Services, Bloomsburg University.
