 CART
Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) is the instantaneous translation of the
spoken word into readable English text.
Often called captioning, this text can be viewed on a notebook computer, television monitor, or large screen
allowing everyone to read along and participate.
CART is widely used in classrooms, counseling sessions, teleconferences, meetings, seminars, conferences, and
trainings, and church services, just to name a few places.
CART enables people who are hard of hearing and deaf equal access to fully and actively participate in
discussions by reading the English text displayed.
Although mainly used for people who are hearing impaired or
deaf, CART has proven to be a valuable learning tool for people with learning disabilities, physical challenges
or people with English as their second language. |
Remote CART While similar to onsite CART, remote CART requires that the client have a computer
with an Internet connection. No phone line is needed for remote CART. A user name and password, supplied by
Archive Reporting & Captioning Service, Inc., are required to access this service.
Remote CART is available internationally in all time zones as long as there is an Internet connection.
Remote CART is a simple and cost-effective solution for many clients. Onsite CART requires travel fees and
often a minimum billing. With remote CART, billing is only for the actual number of hours CART is needed.
Remote CART is often used for people who are hard of hearing for
conference calls. Many of our clients are
Fortune 500 companies.
Remote CART promotes independence
by allowing people to blend in without the added attention of another
adult with equipment sitting beside them.
